17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.” Acts 2 17:18
Recently, something new has been hitting the Christian realm and spreading fast. If you’re saved, you’ve HAD to have noticed this huge prophetic wave that is sweeping the earth. Prophets are jumping up on every corner to give a word to people, and it is AMAZING. I love seeing people of God step into their gifts to encourage others. However, there are always those that are looking to take advantage of people in desperation. It’s great to get a word and get confirmation, and I love it when someone confirms what I already know or speaks life into my family, but there are ALWAYS snakes in the grass.
I learned a long time ago that just because someone claims to be saved and goes to church, does not mean they are saved. The enemy plants people in church to prey on the vulnerable. I know, I was a victim of that once, and it was a really hard lesson to learn, but now I am a victor!
I had a dream a few days ago, and when I woke up in the middle of the night I wrote it down because I knew I wouldn’t remember it. Sure enough, the next morning I had forgot all about it until I looked down at my notebook and saw the words, “Make sure you know who is speaking into your life and they aren’t just throwing crap on your walls.” I thought, “Wow, classy statement Sheena.” And laughed.
It means that we need to be more discerning about who we are listening to and to make sure that what they are saying isn’t crap. A wrong word from someone can distract you and get you off track. It can dirty up your soul. But God will give you that discernment if you ask for it. The closer you are to God, the more you can see and the more He says to you. After a while, the words you receive will be mostly be confirmation on what God has already shown you personally.
1 John 4:1 is very clear on this. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
And when you find the real, support them.
“But test everything, hold fast to what is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21
Prophecy is a huge part of Christianity that has been overlooked for a long time. If we take prophecy out of the Bible, we are removing close to 30% of the Bible. That is a lot! But if we believe that the entire Bible is living and God breathed, we cannot overlook prophecy anymore. This movement is growing and is just getting started. People are hungry to get back to the roots of Christianity. The revival of the Hebrew language has shown us this as well. Shedding light on the dark side of the prosperity gospel has revealed just how far Christianity has got off track. People are going back to where it all started and bringing prophecy back into the church is part of this!
*This is not to be confused with the Hebrew Roots Movement which is an issue all in itself. *
With all of that said, carrying the gift of prophecy can be heavy as well. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with it. If the word you’re speaking is wrong, it can lead someone astray. Most mature Christians will still be able to discern, but a lot of prophecy is given to those who are newer in their faith or not saved at all. God uses prophecy to get people’s attention, and their souls are on the line here!
Anyway, I am excited to see where this movement goes and how it grows. I am excited to see revival brought to the world, and lives changed in ways they never thought possible. Be open to the ways God speaks to you and don’t put Him in a box because if you limit how God can speak to you, you’ll limit what you hear. This will slow your growth!
What is the summary of all of this? (glad you asked!)
Be discerning and ask God for more clarity if you’re still unsure about something, support those with real prophetic gifts, sow seeds into ministries, and step outside the box religion has put God in so He can speak to you.
And do it all with excitement and expectancy for the future!
